Terms and Conditions

The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) will hold details of Key Account Users (KAUs) and any users set up by KAUs in order to verify the identity of the registrant, audit use of the MIDIS system and to contact users in the event of a problem. MIB will withdraw user access rights if there is any misuse of the enquiry facility.

It is a condition of the "Check the MID" service that the MIB may contact any UK user whose enquiry receives a response of "No insurance found", in order to discuss the possible handling of any claim by the MIB and, where appropriate, to offer the MIB legal expenses scheme, which is available free of charge to all claimants who are involved in an accident with an apparently uninsured third party.

User details will not be passed to any other party.

The user must at all times comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998. Any information provided as a result of an enquiry to the MID may only be used in pursuance of a valid motor insurance claim in respect of a road traffic accident, and should only be disclosed to persons who have a legitimate need to know it in that context. MIB reserves the right to conduct an audit of a user's procedures and records at any time to ensure that the user is complying with this condition. If any user is found to be in breach of this condition MIB will withdraw that user's MIDIS access rights immediately.
